Newbee Bluebee

Blue-eyed Bee

Unknown bee found inside Opuntia blossom, Dry Island Buffalo Jump Provincial Park, Alberta.

Any help with bee I.D. would be appreciated.

Note 23/07/2010: I submitted this image to BugGuide, and it has been suggested that this may be a male Diadasia (Coquillettapis) australis (Cresson), which may not have been recorded before in Canada.

(Photographed on the 4 o’ July, 2010 with Nikon D70 and the Tamron 90mm macro lens mounted on a Kenko Pro 1.4x tele-converter. ISO 200, 1/180 sec @ f38)
