Well, I like the least visited picture (it would be a great cover for a pulp crime novel – the Mimusena on-a-half-gentian looks half naked), but Heather says it is over-exposed. Let’s hope The Bugwhisperer gets enough attention to feel over-exposed in 2011!

Heather is right, it is over-exposed. The spider’s left foreleg and the fringe on the gentian are blown out. I consider it acceptable hi-lighting that adds stark intensity to an otherwise somber picture.I imagine quite a few of my bug images will cross the line between the need for scientific accuracy and my aesthetic sense (or lack thereof!)

All the best to you both in the New Year! (…and the cats as well.)

I actually really like that “least viewed” photo, and I agree with your aesthetics…the overexposure creates a really arresting and stark contrast to the way the vivid purple fades into blackness at the opposite end of the photo.

      🙂 Thanks!

I should do a poll on this one…
