Adrian Thysse

Welcome to Splendour Awaits.

My name is Adrian Thysse. I am a photographer based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

This website will share my love for complexity in nature, as viewed through a macro lens. While my main focus will be insects, spiders, and other invertebrates, I will also use this space to share images of  the diversity of life in the habitats that sustain them: flowers, fungi, lichens, mosses and more. I will share macro photography techniques, information on equipment and give notice of future macro photography workshops. I will be looking out for inspirational photographers and scientists and share the work they are doing. Occasionally I will give updates on what I am learning through my self-directed studies, which will include sporadic diversions into antiquity to view the history of those who learned to love small lives long ago.

Macro photography has been one way that I satisfy the elemental human need to connect with nature. I hope you will visit and share in my delight, and then make your own voyages into the natural world. Always remember to slow down and take a closer look at the little things in life: “Splendour awaits in minute proportions.”

E.O. Wilson:

“I have argued in this book that we are human in good part because of the particular way we affiliate with other organisms. They are the matrix in which the human mind originated and is permanently rooted, and they offer the challenge and freedom innately sought. To the extent that each person can feel like a naturalist, the old excitement of the untrammeled world will be regained. I offer this as a formula of re-enchantment to invigorate poetry and myth: mysterious and little known organisms live within walking distance of where you sit. Splendor awaits in minute proportions.”
